Oct 14 firing at Khwairakpam Leikai : Former BJYM president arrested

Former president of Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Manoharmayum Barish Sharma who is alleged to be the main accused of the October 14 firing at Sega Road, Khwairakpam Leikai was arrested by a team of Imphal West district police from his Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal residence at around 11.30 pm yesterday.
As the JAC constituted against the firing incident was demanding arrest of M Barish accusing him as the main accused of the firing incident which left five people injured, M Barish was on the run and avoiding arrest since the incident.
The former BJYM was kept at City Police Station on requisition and he was produced before the Duty Magistrate, Imphal West by a team of Imphal police station this evening and prayed for seven-day police custody remand.
The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO, remanded M Barish to police custody.
Police have already arrested five accused including the vice-president of BJYM Manipur Pradesh in connection with the same case on different dates and all of them were remanded to police custody till October 25 .
Alex Ningombam s/o Ajit Kumar and Gurumayum Rayban s/o (L) Robindro, both from Brahmapur Laljilakpa Leikai were arrested from their homes at around 9 pm on October 15 .
The other three accused including vice president of BJYM Manipur Pradesh Nongthombam Tony Meitei (36) s/o (L) Kumar of Langthabal Lep Mayai Leikai, presently staying at Nungoi Makha Leikai, Ningthoujam Vicky (30) s/o N Bhorot of Kongba Nandeibam Leikai and Khaidem Nibas (33) s/o Lukhoi of Singjamei Wangma Pebiya Pandit Leikai were also arrested subsequently.
The firing took place when armed miscreants wearing masks tried to forcefully abduct one Bobo Khaidem of Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai on October 14 at around 10.40 pm which resulted in heated argument between the armed miscreants and local people of Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai.
As the local people vehemently resisted their abduction bid, the miscreants opened fire and inflicted injuries on five people.
