Barish arrested, sent to police custody till Oct 27

In connection with the shoot ing incident at Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai on October 14 which left five people including a woman injured, Imphal PS arrested Manoharmayum Barish Sharma on Saturday night.
The former BJYM president has been, subsequently, remanded to police custody till October 27 .
As a per a police report, Barish was arrested from his Ningthem Pukhri Mapal residence at around 11.30 pm on Saturday.
On Sunday, an Imphal PS team produced him before the court of the duty magistrate, which then remanded him to police custody till October 27 for further interrogation.
Several charges including curfew violation, criminal intimidation and attempt to murder under various sections of IPC have been levelled against him.
It may be recalled here that on October 14 at around 10.30 pm, a group of around 20 armed unidentified men came to Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai and attempted to abduct a local but were thwarted by Meira Paibi and members of the local club.
In the process, the unidentified fired several rounds at the crowd, injuring five people including a woman.
Strongly condemning the incident, the locals formed a JAC and along with volunteers of Youth of Manipur thronged Barish's Ningthem Pukhri Mapal residence, demanding to produce him before the crowd.
However, Barish was not home at the time and as such, his wife and family members apologised to the angry people in his stead.
On Friday, representatives of JAC met CM N Biren and demanded arrest of Barish and awarding him punishment as per the law.
In response, the CM assured of arresting the former BJYM president at the earliest.
Earlier, police had arrested Nongthombam Tony (36) s/o (L) Kumar of Langthabal Mayai Leikai, Ningthoujam Vicky (30) s/o N Bhorot of Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, Khaidem Nibash (33) s/o Lukhoi of Singjamei Wang-ma Pebiya Pandit Leikai, Alex Ningombam (24) s/o Ajit Kumar and Gurumayum Reben (30) s/o (L) Robindro of Brahmapur Laljilapat Leikai, in connection with the incident.
All five were produced before the court, which then remanded them to police custody till October 27 .
