Imphal, October 22 2023:
Naga Student's Union Chandel (NSUC) president SK Joseph Lamkang has extended greetings to the people on the joyous occasion of 'Chavan Kumhrin/Kumren' (harvest festival) .
In his message, SK Joseph Lamkang said, "We must learn the goodness of sharing from nature as it shares everything with us.
We have been celebrating this festival ever since we were born, but we never get tired because it celebrates the harvest and there is not a day that we can survive without food" .
"Chavan Kumren is the time of the year we worship our harvest, and it is very important to us.
We celebrate our food, hard work, and success! Chavan Kumhrin/ Kumren is the festival of Naga tribes in Chandel in which we join our hearts together in prayer to the almighty for bountiful harvest on the auspicious occasion of Chavan Kumhrin/Kumren which is celebrated across the hill villages in the district every year on October 23," it said.
NSUC also mentioned that common to all Na-gas in Chandel as the harvesting festival, all people visit churches for prayer services in the morning to offer first fruit of the harvest in thanksgiving and say prayers for plentiful harvest and blessing.
District administration, Chandel had declared the festival as a district holiday on May 15, 1978 .
Since then, the people of the district have been celebrating the festival every year, it informed.
"I wish the people of Chandel and Tengnoupal to let us cheer our farmers and let us give them a huge thank you for their hard work, and let us wish them a very happy Chavan Kurrihrin/ Kumren!" .
"May the spirit of Chavan Kumhrin/Kumren bring peace, prosperity, love & joy to one and all in the district," the student body conveyed.
