UG cadre arrested, arms & ammunition seized

Imphal, October 22 2023:
Police arrested an active member of an underground group and seized several arms and ammunition during search operations conducted in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Kakching, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts in the last two days.
According to an official statement, on Saturday, Manipur Police detained one active member of an underground group from Imphal-West District and recovered 68 live rounds of 40 mm Lathode Ammunition (UBGL), 573 numbers of 7.62 mm live round ammunition, 294 numbers of 5.56 mm live round ammunition, and 379 numbers of 7.62mm live round ammunition.
The accused person along with the seized items have been handed over to Imphal West district police and later remanded in police custody.
Movement of 225 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured.
Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
A total of 131 checkpoints were installed in different districts, both in the hill and the valley, and 2050 people were detained in different districts, the official statement said.
The statement appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos.

Further appeal is also made to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
