Governor advises SBI, India Post to aid IDPs

Imphal, January 11 2024: State Bank of India (SBI), Imphal regional manager Okendra Singh Khumukcham, along with an official called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Thursday and apprised her of the steps taken up by the bank in extending assistance to the violence-affected, internally displaced persons (IDPs) staying in relief camps across the state.

During the meeting, the regional manager informed the Governor that SBI has started distribution of loan under 'One Family One Livelihood' scheme of the state government and identification for providing further assistance to the violence affected families have also been conducted with the help of district administrations.

Staff members have been deputed and sent to the relief camps to collect mobile numbers, Aadhaar card, etc., for customers who have lost bank documents to regenerate the same.

SBI also donated Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and has been trying to provide all possible assistance further to the displaced people in relief camps, Okendra conveyed while thanking the Governor for her efforts to extend assistance to the IDPs and restore peace and normalcy in the state.

Governor Anusuiya asked the banker to provide all possible assistance to the displaced people staying in relief camps both in hills and valley.

She also appreciated the bank for their announcement of a 12-month moratorium on interest payments for loans taken by its customers in Manipur.

Loan under PM MUDRA, start-ups, etc., should be provided so that the displaced people can at least start their own business for sustainability and income generation, she added.

A team of India Post led by postmaster Lukhram Radheshyam Singh, along with five others also called on the Governor to apprise her of the initiative taken up by the India Post for the displaced people staying in relief camps in the state.

The team informed the Governor about the difficulties/inconveniences faced in the delivery of mails/dak in many places due to the prevailing situation and their efforts to deliver it in the best interest of the people.

They said that re-enactment of India Post Payment Bank passbooks has been started for those who have lost their passbooks or were burnt.

The Governor while asking them to visit relief camps and enquire about the requirements of India Post to the displaced people, said that all possible assistance should be extended to the displaced people after finding out their requirements .

In order to determine the needs and identify those who want India Post services, she advised the team to write to the deputy commissioners for further action.
