Imphal, January 11 2024:
Chakan Gaan-Ngai, the biggest festival of Zeliangrong community falls on January 23, but the celebration this year will be toned down in view of the volatile situation in Manipur, said Zeliangrong Union (AMN) and Zeliangrong Cultural Council (ZCC) .
Appealing to the Zeliangrong community living in Manipur to celebrate the festival in a restrained manner, the Zeliangrong Union (AMN), in a statement, also urged village authorities to avoid performing folk dance, festival song competition, beating of traditional drum, shouting with noisy clamour, cracking jokes and any other entertainment activities during the festival as a mark of extending solidarity to the families who have lost their loved ones in the current conflict between communities.
The village authorities may perform ritual and customary activities of the festival as offerings to Almighty God Haipou Tingkao Ragwang and other lower realm Gods for the well being and prosperity of the community, said the ZU (AMN) .
