No law and order in Manipur: Ibobi

Imphal, January 07 2024: Sticker for the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra', the Rahul Gandhi-led Manipur to Maharashtra long march which will begin on January 14, has been unveiled Sunday at Congress Bhawan.

AICC Manipur in-charge Girish Chodankar unveiled the sticker in the presence of CWC member Gaikhangam, CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh, MPCC president K Meghachandra, deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, MPCC treasurer Th Lokeshwar, Congress MLAs and former MPs and MLAs of the party.

At the sticker unveiling function, CLP leader and former chief minister Okram Ibobi recounted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi undertook a long march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir some months back and his second long march from Imphal to Mumbai will be set off on January 14 to ring out the message that there is no democracy and justice in the country.

The long march will pass through NE states like Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya before entering West Bengal and winding up in Mumbai, Maharashtra, he said.

According to O Ibobi, there is no law and order in Manipur at present and accordingly no meaning of democracy.

Rahul Gandhi has chosen to start the long march from Manipur to show his concerns for the state and to make aware the citizens about the fate of the future of the nation, Ibobi said while maintaining that there is no end to the more than eight months long violence that broke out on May 3, 2023 and the state remains volatile till date.

Rahul Gandhi visited the state during the height of the violence as he fully understood sentiments of the people but his visit to Churachandpur on road was stopped by the government and forced to visit the town by helicopter, Ibobi said.

He further said that Rahul Gandhi-led 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' will try to show to the country and foreign countries if Manipur is not a part of India.

Even the Supreme Court had said that there is complete failure of law and order in Manipur and all constitutional machineries in the state have failed, he said adding that there is no value of human lives in Manipur.

He then appealed people of Manipur to support 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' while claiming that over 1 lakh people of the state are likely take part the long march.

AICC Manipur in-charge Girish Chodankar also said that 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' will cover more than 6,000km in 15 states and 110 districts of the country in 66 days.
