Imphal, January 07 2024:
The Poirei Apunba Leimarol Meira Paibi (PALEM) Imphal East has threatened to launch an intense agitation if the FIR lodged against the Meira Paibis is not cancelled at the earliest.
Speaking to the media today at Nongada, PALEM Imphal East president Bimolata strongly decried the FIR filed by the police against 12 meira paibis for allegedly objecting to deployment/presence of Central forces at Sagang village on January 2 .
She alleged that the filing of FIR against the meira paibis who have been significantly involved in upholding the territorial integrity of Manipur during the ongoing crisis is akin to inviting another movement/ riot of Manipuri women by the Government.
Alleging that the Central Forces deployed by the Government of India to control the present conflict have become a public nuisance, she said, "Personnel of Central Security Force staying at various community halls and schools in villages have been reported of harassing and eve-teasing young children & women" .
She asserted that the Meira Paibis have a lot of respect for the law but the biased manner in which the Central Forces have allegedly taken side with the Kukis in this conflict instead of remaining a neutral force to control the conflict and protect all Indian citizens cannot be overlooked.
Bimolata further urged the authorities concerned to withdraw the FIR filed against the meira paibis without any condition at the earliest to prevent any mass movement by women of Manipur in this crucial juncture.
Meanwhile, Janata Dal (United) Manipur State vice president Sanjoy Ahanthem has asserted that the filing of FIR against Meira Paibis who were protesting the deployment of Central Force in Sangang area is an insult to all the mothers of Manipur.
Speaking to the media, Sanjoy said that the 12 Meira Paibis have been protesting peacefully in a democratic way since November 2023 against the deployment/presence of Central Forces at Sagang village.
Pointing out that everyone should remember the contributions and sacrifices made by Meira Paibis for Manipur since ages, Sanjoy Ahanthem appealed to the authorities concerned and Chief Minister N Biren Singh to intervene and revoke the FIR filed against the Meira Paibis without any condition at the earliest.
