CCPur, January 07 2024:
Raenghzaeng villagers have reportedly declared the "erection of monolith commemorating 35 years of chiefship" of ex-officio chairman of the village Rangjandun Kamei on January 5 as "null and void" .
As per a statement issued by Pantiphun Ruangmei, Khunbu (Chief), Raenghzaeng (Ngarian) Village, Churachandpur, the programme was conducted "secretly by few members of the Kamei clan and without the unanimous decision of the village" .
The press release went on to add that since the inception of the village, Ruangmei clan has been the Khunbu/Chief till the present day and hence "no other person of the village can be the Khunbu/Chief of the said village except from the line of succession of the original settlor who established the village as per the traditional practice of the Kabui (Rongmei) community" .
The statement also clarified that the Ruangmei clan had assigned the Kamei clan as "Khulakpa" to look after the well-being of the village "but not as chief of the village" .
