Bishnupur, January 07 2024:
Meira Paibi groups from Kumbi and Sugnu assembly constituencies on Sunday organised a public meeting at Wangoo Ahallup play ground in continuation of the protest against the deployment of central forces at Sagang village.
Meira Paibi members have been protesting day and night along the Wangoo road since November 13, 2023 to demand withdrawal of the central forces.
Sunday's meeting was attended by Wangoo Gram Panchayat pradhan Amom Bina Leima, Borayangbi Gram Panchayat pradhan Thiyam Binokumari Leima, Wangoo Terakhong Gram Panchayat pradhan P Baleshwor and Kakching district Wangoo Gram Panchayat pradhan L Sharat along with Meira Paibi representatives of Kom and Meetei Pangal communities from Sagang.
Speaking to media, a woman representative informed that there is no point of stationing central forces at Sangang as Meetei, Meetei Pangal and Kom communities have been living in harmony since time immemorial.
Instead of deploying the 2nd Maha Regiment at Sagang, authorities concerned should station the troops at Napat and Tangjeng Ahallup which are affected by the conflict and many displaced people still unable to return to their original homes till date, she suggested.
The meeting also resolved to launch intense agitations, if the troops are not removed by January 13 and also to urge the government for revocation of SoO with Kuki underground outfits.
As part of the meeting, the womenfolk also raised slogans against deployment of central forces at Sagang.
