The border town Moreh remains in high tension as heavily armed Kuki militants targeted barracks of state forces, leading to exchange of heavy firing on Sunday night.
The skirmish also involved combined teams of Assam Rifles and BSF as they joined the state police and commandos in retaliating swiftly to the firing.
Police source said that the Kuki militants launched the fresh attack on Manipur Police Commando Complex as well as other posts in Moreh Bazar, Ward No 7, 9, and Moreh Court Complex from around 7 pm.
The gunfight lasted till around 9 pm, after which joint security team launched a massive search operation but there is no report of any arrest made.
Reports also suggest instances of bomb attacks during the confrontation, with sources indicating the use of approximately two dozen bombs against the security forces.
Despite the intensity of the exchange, there are no casualties reported on the security side at the time of filing this report.
However, the source said that there might be some injuries among the Kuki militants.
This recent incident follows earlier events on December 30 and 31 when heavy firing erupted in Moreh, resulting in injuries to six security personnel, including a BSF trooper.
