Imphal, January 07 2024:
The long march of Manipur Youth League (MAYOL), which kicked off from Kangla Fort on December 20 last as a mission to cover 600 important locations of the state, halted at Mongshangei where a public convention was held Sunday.
Speaking at the convention, Prof MC Arun pointed out that no history in the world was made without force and conflicts.
In the history of Manipur, there had been various instances of force and conflict, including the historic Seven Years' Devastation serving as bitter lesson to the people of the erstwhile kingdom of Manipur.
He further informed that the Seven Years' Devastation not only affected and destroyed politics, economy and social strata, but also reduced the population of Manipur by 30 percent, consequently making the present generation to struggle to bridge the void created.
Stressing the need to understand who the real enemy is and whom to fight, he recalled how Manipuri ancestors led by King Gambhir Singh and his younger brother Nara Singh forced exit of the Burmese invaders by launching a strategically devised war.
Manipur had also fought the Anglo-Manipuri War with known enemy.
However, people of contemporary Manipur seem confused who the real enemy is.
As the people should join hands in building a new, resolute and vibrant Manipur for which the masses need good leaders who are not infatuated in corruption but are committed to work in the larger interest of the people, he added.
After the morning public meeting at Mongshangei, the long march resumed towards Singjamei Chingamathak and halted again at Hao Ground where another meeting was held in the evening.
