The District Election Officer (DEO), Imphal East District has informed all concerned that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the poll taken onApril 19, 2024 in 7 polling stations in respect of Imphal East District to be void and appointed April 22, 2024 as the date for taking fres poll from 7 am to 5 pm.
A release issued by Khumanthem Diana Devi, DEO, Imphal East, has also appealed to each and every eligible citizen to exercise his/ her right to vote.
It also reiterated to all the voters that the ECI had notified that Photo voter slips are not to be valid as stand-alone identification documents for voting.
Those electors who are not able to produce the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) shall produce one of the following 11 alternative photo identity documents for establishing their identity- Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, MNREGA Job Card, Aadhaar Card, Health Insurance Smart Card issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour, Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR, Passbooks with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office, Pension document with photograph, Official identity cards issued to MI's/MLAs/MLCs and Service Identity Cards with photograph issued to employees by Central/State Government/PSUs/Public Limited Companies.
The DEO highlighted that as per Section 171 C of Indian Penal Code, any person who threatens any candidate or elector, or any other person, with injury of any kind, is punishable with imprisonment up to one year or with fine or both.
The DEO also appealed to all the citizens to refrain from taking any bribe and in case, anybody offers any bribe or is having knowledge about the bribe or case of the then he/she should inform on the toll free number 1950 of the Complaint Monitoring Cell, set up for receiving the complaints or '9089574328' or use the Election Commission's c-VIGIL app to file complaints for violation of the provisions of model code of conduct (MCC).
In order to ensure free, fair and smooth election, certain restrictions have also been imposed on poll day within the polling station premises such as providing free conveyance to voters to and from the polling stations by a candidate/his agent; canvassing within polling station or any public or private place within a distance of 100 meters of a polling station; use of cellular phones, cordless phone, etc; use of campaign related post-ers/banners and loud speakers within 100 meters of the polling booth; setting up of booths within 200 meters of polling booth, etc.
