COCOMI urges people to raise black flags

Imphal, August 08 2026: Har Ghar Tiranga campaign has no meaning to people of Manipur who have been deprived of their fundamental rights, said Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) in a statement today.

The prolonged conflict since May 3, 2023 has not been resolved, and peace is yet to be restored.

Thousands of people who have been displaced by the conflict have not been allowed to return to their homes.

And, people are still unable to travel on the highways freely.

Under such circumstances, Har Ghar Tiranga has little meaning to the people, COCOMI said.

There is no free movement.

The Meiteis at present are unable to move beyond the valley and their lives are similar to that of fishes in a bowl.

Even though they are citizens of the country, they have been deprived of their fundamental rights, enshrined in the Constitution, COCOMI said, accusing the Government of India of waging a proxy war and prolonging the conflict.

Under such circumstances, should the indigenous people of Manipur raise the tricolour or a black flag ? COCOMI asked.

"COCOMI feels people should raise black flags." Har Ghar Tiranga campaign to show patriotism and National Unity has little meaning to people who have been treated differently and denied their fundamental rights, the committee said, appealing to the people to join it in raising black flags.
