Media's role in conflict resolution stressed

Imphal, August 08 2026: The role of media in conflict resolution is huge and as such media organisations in Manipur should play proactive and positive roles in bringing about an environment conducive for bringing a resolution to the current conflict and restore peace, said IPOM president Advocate Y Devadutta today.

The IPOM president was speaking at an event held to observe the organisation's 3rd anniversary at Bright Dine and Retreat, Toubungkhok, Imphal West.

The Indigenous Peoples Organisation Manipur (IPOM) was founded on August 8, 2023.The third foundation day was observed under the theme "The Role of Media in Conflict Resolution" .

Media personnel including senior journalists, Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) president Khogendra Khomdram and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) general secretary Khwairakpam Naoba attended the event.

Speaking at the event, Devadutta acknowledged the media's duties and roles in the society at large, and encouraged the fraternity in Manipur to uphold ethics and play pivotal roles in building trust among the public.

EGM president Khogendra Khomdram urged the media fraternity to uphold the highest standard of ethics.

He recalled how the State's media fraternity stood up to mainstream National media when the latter published erroneous reports on the Manipur conflict.

The media in Manipur will strive to uphold ethics and continue to tell the truth, he added.

All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) general secretary Khwairakpam Naoba underscored the importance of fair and balanced reporting, and encouraged media organisations to refrain from reporting news that could hurt the sentiments and interests of a community.

He also spoke about the rampant nature of non-registered organisations and handles publishing unverified news and reports on social media.

Such practice hurt the image of the media fraternity, he added.

IPOM general secretary Rakesh Moirangthem, and several members of the organisation were present.
