Senapati, August 08 2026:
Naga people of Senapati district on Saturday prohibited movement of Kuki people within Senapati district with immediate effect.
This decision was reportedly taken during a joint consultative meeting of Naga frontal organizations of the district including the Naga People's Organization (NPO), Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) and Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) together with the tribe Hoho at the NPO conference hall, Senapati.
The decision of the consultative meeting follows the incident that took place at Gamgiphai Gate on August 4, 2026 .
The meeting took serious note of the incident in which representatives of the NPO, SDWA, SDSA and the Supervisory Committee were denied passage at Gamgiphai Gate by Kuki volunteers, despite repeatedly identifying themselves and explaining the purpose of their movement.
After due deliberation, the house expressed serious concern over the incident and resolved that the Naga people of Senapati district shall restrict the movement of Kuki people within Senapati district with immediate effect and until further notice, as a collective form of protest against the incident.
The organisations have also called upon the concerned authorities to take cognisance of the incident at Gamgiphai Gate and ensure that the rights, safety and dignity of the Naga people are respected so that such incidents do not recur.
