Imphal, August 08 2026: The two-day consultative meeting cum seminar on the Demographic Profile of Manipur has concluded with an understanding to submit the points of agreement reached at the seminar to the State Government for necessary action.

The consultative meeting cum seminar jointly organised by the Home Department and Manipur State Population Commission concluded today at Hotel Classic Grande.

The consultative meeting cum seminar was participated by top officials of Home Department, academicians, legal experts, representatives of civil society organisations, public leaders and intellectuals.

The two-day meeting cum seminar was divided into four sessions and almost all the sessions focused on the issue of updating the National Register of Citizens and the scheduled census operations.

Speaking to media persons this evening, Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) convenor Jeetendra Ningomba said that the participants agreed to submit the recommendations adopted at the meeting cum seminar as well as the salient points deliberated by the gathering of intellectuals, legal experts, Government officials and CSO leaders to the State Government.

He said that the people's collective wish for keeping census operations at bay until the NRC is updated was central to all the points of agreement reached at the gathering.

The State Government has been asked to raise the people's collective wish with the Central Government.

It was also agreed that the State Government should take the responsibility of going to the High Court or Supreme Court, if the need arises, Jeetendra said.

However, the State Government has not made any official announcement in line with the people's collective wish "No NRC, no census", he said.

As for the JFD, it remains firm on its stated position to launch a strong protest movement after August 6, he said.

Jeetendra said that the JFD will hold a meeting with all its units at 11 am tomorrow and discuss the unfolding situation.

After the meeting, the JFD will announce the course of agitation which will go on until its objective is achieved, he added.
