Bishnupur, April 21 2024:
A large number of people gathered and protested in front of Badempur Primary School in Borayangbi Thoubal Leikai to denounce the proposed withdrawal of the 42 Battalion CRPF C Company from the area, designated as a red zone.
The protesters included members from the Meetei and Meetei Pangal communities of Borayangbi, Laingoubi, Khoijumantabi and Sandangkhong, which are in close proximity to Langya village under Samulamlan block which falls under Saikot assembly constituency in Churachandpur district, inhabited by the Hmar community.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines, a meira paibi condemned the decision to withdraw the central forces from the area while pointing out that presence of these forces has ensured safety of the local residents.
Opining that withdrawal of the central forces has the potential for occurrence of unwanted incidents, leading to sleepless nights, she insisted that if the central forces were to be pulled out, they should leave only after their replacement by other security forces.
The agitators vowed to continue their protests, while asserting that any unfortunate incidents resulting from the situation should be the sole responsibility of the government.
