Imphal, April 21 2024:
Expressing concern over the unfolding situation in the valley districts of Manipur, the Thawai Mirel has appealed to all civil society organisations (CSOs) to come out so as to identify the real enemy together and avoid the internal conflict.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, Thawai Mirel co-convenor Paonam Sanahanbi said that the Meetei people have fallen to the trap of Kuki narco-terrorists and started taking on one another.
Saying that Meetei/Meitei are at a critical stage and the situation today is similar to that of Seven Year Devastation popularly known as Chahi Taret Khuntakpa, Sanahanbi maintained that the emergence of many cases of infighting among the Meetei people amid the grave crisis is worrisome.
It is not the time for the CSOs to remain silent, she said and appealed to all the organisations to intervene and play the central role in saving the indigenous Meetei/Meitei people who are at the crossroad.
She said that Thawai Mirel will endorse whatever decision is taken by the CSOs to create a sense of unity among the Meetei/Meitei people.
Sanahanbi also said that Thawai Mirel has been doing whatever they can to help the people taking refuge at relief camps including those run by the Government and the people living at remote and foothill areas.
The Thawai Mirel takes the unfolding situation very seriously, she said and reiterated that the intervention of CSOs is needed to end the internal conflict and secure the future of the Meetei community.
