Imphal, April 21 2024:
Students of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya, a residential school at Laingoubi under Kumbi Assembly Constituency in Bishnupur district have sought the attention of the Government to the growing need to open their school.
In the last academic session, before the conflict started on May 3, 2023, the school conducted classes for only two months, said the students.
The students said this during a meeting and a press meet held at the residence of one of them at Wangoo Sandangkhong today.
The press meet was attended by guardians and parents of the school.
A Class X girl said she has been a student at the school since Class VI .
Since the school has been shut since May 3, 2023, she said, no classes have been conducted for nearly 12 months.
She said the students want the school to open again and start a new academic session.
One of the guardians, T Pradip said all the students of the school belong to poor families.
"While we were thankful to the school for enabling our children to get formal education, the conflict has, however, disrupted the classes," he said.
He said the parents have approached the Zonal Education officer (ZEO) concerned and the Bishnupur district Deputy Commissioner urging them to open the school and start a fresh session.
The children are not getting any education, and the parents have no money to send their wards to other schools.
Their future seems bleak, he said.
The guardian said the Government should open the school by April 28 .
If the school is not opened by April 28, the parents, with the help of civil society organisations, may launch stringent agitation, said the guardians.
