Jiribam, August 08 2026: Even as two of the three Pambei-led UNLF cadres have been released, the shutdown imposed by civil bodies in Jiribam affected normal life in the district today.

Roads were blocked and shops remained closed today.

While two of the three "detained" have been released, one has been arrested and not released yet, said sources.

The arrested cadre has been identified as Akoijam Sangkar alias Chepta.

Leaders of civil bodies including COCOMI Women Wing in the district have urged the police and the Government to release the cadre without any conditions attached.

The wife of the arrested cadre, has meanwhile, asserted that the police allegedly made her sign a paper stating Sangkar was arrested at 10.45 pm yesterday when in fact he was arrested much earlier at around 9.30 am from Cachar Udarbond oil pump.

Alleging irregularities, the wife of the arrested and civil bodies have demanded action against the district's SP.

The civil bodies appealed to the Government to release Sangkar at the earliest.
