North American Manipur Association condoles

The North American Manipur Association has condoled the demise of Dr Adhikarimayum Surjalal Sharma, an astrophysicist and educator at the University of Maryland, USA.
He passed away on January 5 .
Dr Adhikarimayum Surjalal Sharma is survived by his wife, Dilli Sharma, and their two adult sons, Tonku and Khagi.
His departure has left a profound void felt not only within scientific circles but also among the entire Manipuri diaspora in North America, said North American Manipuri Association, sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved family members.
Dr Surjalal Sharma was born to Adhikarimayum Amuba Sharma and Adhikarimayum ongbi Sanatombi on October 1, 1951 at Brahmapur Aribam Leikai, Imphal, Manipur.
Prof Surjalal was not only a scholarly luminary but also a guiding force at NAMA (North American Manipuri Association), said the association in a statement.
As a founding member, past president and chair of its Board of Trustees, he played a pivotal role in nurturing Manipuri heritage in North America and supported educational and humanitarian causes in Manipur, said NAMA.
Dr Surjalal Sharma's life was an exquisite tapestry interwoven with academic brilliance and a spirit for adventure.
From scaling the heights of scientific research to conquering Mt Fuji alongside an international team of scientists, Dr Surjalal's legacy extends far beyond academic boundaries.
His profound impact on scientific inquiry, dedication to Manipuri heritage preservation, and commitment to fostering academic collaborations will forever resonate within the academic community and the Manipuri diaspora, said NAMA.
