Lt Col Rajeev Bakshi memorial football tourney begins

Churachandpur Battalion of IGAR (South) in collaboration with Hmar Trophy Organising Board; Parbung inaugurated the much awaited 17th Lt Col Rajeev Bakshi Memorial Football Tournament on Monday at Damdei village in Pherzawl district.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the tournament is being organised by Pherzwal district denizens since 2007 in honour of Lt Col Rajeev Bakshi of 13 Dogra Regiment also fondly remembered as 'Tiger of Tipaimukh', who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting insurgents on January 20 in 2006 at Parbung in Pherzawl district.
Due to countrywide COVID restrictions, the tournament was conducted at a reduced scale for the last three years.
However, this year the tournament is going to be held in a grand manner, where a total of 16 teams including four teams from Mizoram and 12 of Manipur will be participating in the tournament.
The matches will be played in league format with the final to be contested on January 20 between the best two teams.
The tournament will witness exciting cash awards of Rs 50,000 for winners and Rs 30,000 for runners up.
In addition, individual awards for top scorer, best goal keeper and player of the tournament would be given.
