Imphal, January 16 2023:
Expressing serious concern over the manner in which issues surrounding drugs have gradually progressed in the state from drug use to drug production and manufacturing and its adverse effect in the Manipuri society as a whole, Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) has called upon all concerned to understand the real issue and work unitedly.
It also demanded the government to take up stringent actions against perpetrators as per law of the land.
In a release, CCSK said that the issue of drugs is the most crucial problem faced by the humanity as it tends to bring chaos in the society and ultimately leads to its destruction and disintegration.
Taking a dig at those individuals and organisations supporting illegal plantation of poppies in the hills despite the government's repeated appeals against the illegal practice in the interest of saving the human race, CCSK said that the government should come up with more stringent laws to deal with such people who are against humanity.
"There can be no mercy for such people who are the enemy of the society and the time has come for severest form of punitive actions against them," it said.
On the issue of drug use which has been slowly crippling the state, CCSK, while pointing out the Manipur is not like western states where the population is large and drug use is often taken as a fashion, urged all concerned not to bring those decadent ideas into the state.
"Let no individual or groups say any thing which could discourage government and non-governmental agencies working against drugs", it made it clear.
The Committee also pointed out the need for all organisations, meira paibi groups, clubs, individuals and associations to join hands and fight the drug menace in the state and save the future generations from drowning in the whirlpool of substance abuse.
