Bishnupur, January 16 2023:
Demanding inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the Scheduled Tribes list of the Indian Constitution, a large number of people came out in Moirang Bazar and formed human chain while shouting various slogans on Monday.
The demonstration was jointly organised by Scheduled Tribe demand Committee Manipur, Moirang Kendra Apunba Meira Paibi Ima Lup (MAMPIL) and Kege Moirang Kendra Apunba lup (KEMKAL) .
Speaking to reporters on the side-lines, KEMKAL president Konjengbam Nanda pointed put as the demand for inclusion of Meetei in the Scheduled Tribes list has been a long pending demand of the STDCM authority concerned should not hesitate from doing the needful to fulfil the demand.
Nanda further said that despite scoring high mark in various examinations conducted by state and central government institutions Meitei/Meetei people are always left behind due to the quota enjoyed by their ST and SC counterparts.
Such deprivation of fruit of hard labour is very unfortunate considering the fact the Meitei/Meetei were once considered as ST, the president observed.
Meanwhile, the demonstrators shouted slogans like "Include Meitei/Meetei in the ST List of Indian Constitution", "Manipur government should send recommendation to the central government", "Save the land of indigenous Meitei/Meetei", etc.
