Capacity building prog inaugurated

A capacity building and orientation programme for cluster develop -ment executives and textiles designers was inaugurated by the Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles under the National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP), at Pathoibi Arcade, Wangkhei on Monday.
The inaugural function was attended by Handlooms and Textiles director K Lamlee Kamei as chief guest.
Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited managing director E Jiten, Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans Co-operative Society Limited managing director Ch Mandakini and Mutua Bahadur were also present at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, E Jiten emphasised on the role of cluster development executives and textiles designers in effectiveimplementation of projects taken up under NHDP, including the 21 Manipur Cluster Development project programmes, mega handloom Imphal East and Craft Handloom Village in Moirang.
He informed that the capacity and orientation programme is important with regard to informing the weavers what type of clothes they could make, the clothes in demand in the country and abroad and the clothes which would be liked by the people.
In addition, the programme aims to help the weavers make clothes which could compete at the global level, while also maintaining its quality and superior design, he maintained.
Jiten further informed that apart from state-based faculty, faculty members from National Institute of Fashion Designing and National Institute of Design will be imparting training during the programme.
