War on Drugs: Cops held with 1.3 kg heroin, 9 kg WY tablets

A combined team of Kakching commando unit and Pallel police station arrested five Manipur police personnel illegally transporting a huge quantity of drugs, including heroin and Yaba tablets, from Moreh town along the India-Myanmar border to state capital Imphal in a police vehicle on Monday.
Along with arresting the five posted at Moreh, the combined team also recovered 1.336 kg of heroin and 9.151 kg of WY tablets from a Maruti Gypsy (MN01K6510) the accused five was travelling in.
The accused have been identified as havildar (team commander) Kh Achouba Singh of Manipur Police Training College (MPTC); rifleman Th Subhash Chothe of 7th Bn Manipur Rifles (MR); constable Y Dineshwar Meitei of Imphal West district police; rifleman M Premchandra Singh of 6 MR; and rifleman N Dorendrajit Singh of 6 MR, all attached to commando unit, Kakching.
Briefing media persons in conniption with the case at his office on Monday, Kakching SP Shrey Vats informed that the accused police personnel were detained while coming from Moreh in the Gypsy at Kuraopokpi near St Joseph English School along NH102 by a combined team of Kakching commando unit and Pallel police station led jointly by officer in-charge subedar S Birla Singh, subedar Ksh Prakash Singh and Pallel police station sub-inspector K Mothilphun Dangsawa around 7:30 am on Monday.
On searching the vehicle in which the accused were travelling, 100 soap cases containing heroin and eight bundles of WY tablets with each bundle containing approximately 10,000 tablets were recovered, he informed.
The SP continued that upon weighing, the heroin was found to be 1.336 kg and the WY tablets 9.151 kg.
In addition, Rs 80,000 in cash was recovered from Kh Achouba Singh.
The arrested personnel along with the seized items have been handed over Kakching police station for further legal action, he added.
It may be mentioned here that earlier in May 2022, a head constable of Churachan-pur district police posted at CID Special Branch, identified as Henglep Lunmingthang Haokip alias Mimin (33), son of (late) Holkholet Haokip of Kholmum village was arrested along with two other people for possession of 2.13 kg of heroin.
In a separate development, the Manipur government on Monday started deploying drones to destroy poppy plantations in the state.
More such missions will be carried out in all the areas where poppy is being cultivated, the Chief Minister said in a tweet.
In a separate tweet, the Chief Minister said: "Grass cutters are now used for destruction of poppy plantations.
Drones that can spray herbicides will be deployed soon as well.
