Imphal, January 16 2023:
After over a year, the leaked valve on the southern canal of Singda Dam, which has abetting depletion of wa-ter level in the dams reservoir, has been finally repaired on Monday.
While confirming repairing of the leaked valve, a senior officer in the Water Resources Department informed that earlier water leaked through the faulty valve was used by farmers for agricultural purpose.
However, the department felt the need to prevent leakage of water through the canal considering the water scarcity being faced by the people and took up the repair work.
The People's Chronicle had on January 12 published a report related with the depleting water level in the dam's reservoir, which supplies water for domestic consumption to vast area of Imphal city and surrounding areas.
Local people said that the valve on the southern canal started leaking more than a year ago and the department did not take up any steps to repair the fault.
Since water leaked through the faulty valve non stop, it contributed in rapid decline of water volume in the dam's reservoir.
