Chinglensana flags off 'Run Chandel Run' marathon

Imphal, April 11 2023:
Modi Battalion in collaboration with District Sports Association (DSA) Chandel, Wisecrabs, Royal Riders Chandel and Chandel District Administration co-organised a mini marathon 'Run Chandel Run' 2023 edition on Tuesday.
According to a press release from the IGAR (S), the event was organised to promote fitness, health and well-being amongst the local populace, especially the youth.
The aim of this mini marathon was to raise awareness about the negative impact of drugs on society and promote physical activity as a part of a healthy lifestyle.
The event was a great opportunity for the community to come together and support a noble cause.
Chinglensana Singh Kangujam, Arjun awardee (2019), Indian hockey player and Olympian (Rio 2016) from Manipur, flagged off the mini marathon.
He stressed the need for everyone to make physical activity a part of their daily routine and encouraged them to take up running as a means to stay fit.
Almost 500 runners galloped through the picturesque streets of Chandel.
The event was divided into two categories - 5 kms for U-16 age category and above 40 years old from Leikun village and 10 kms for 16-40 yrs category from Heibunglok village.
Participants were from all ages including students, athletes, troops of Assam Rifles and fitness enthusiasts.
Brigadier Vedpal Yadav, DIG HQ 26 Sector Assam Rifles, and Mayanglambam Rajkumar, DC Chandel, fuelled motivation in the marathon by their participation.
The run concluded at Maha Union Govt Higher Secondary School.
Speaking about the event, Chinglensana said, "It was an honour to flag off the Run Chandel Run' Mini Marathon 2023 .
I am grateful to the organisers for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this noble cause.
I hope that the message of the marathon reaches far and wide and inspires people to lead a healthy and active life" .
In his closing remarks, Brigadier Vedpal Yadav, DIG 26 Sector Assam Rifles, thanked all the participants of Chandel for their enthusiasm and dedication to the cause.
He reiterated the commitment of Assam Rifles in promoting fitness and healthy living among the citizens of Manipur and urged everyone to join hands in fight against drugs.
The organisers and local populace provided the runners with water stations en route and refreshments post run.
Medical cover throughout the route was provided by Assam Rifles and Chief Medical Officer, Chandel.
The event also witnessed local artists showcasing their talent at the closing ceremony.
The mini marathon conducted by Assam Rifles was a resounding success, with its message of fitness and anti-drugs awareness reaching a large audience.
"We are delighted to have participated in the Run Chandel Run" mini marathon.
The event is a testament to our commitment towards promoting a drug-free society and a healthy lifestyle.
We hope that the message of the marathon resonates among the youth of Chandel and inspires all to lead a healthy and active life," said a young participant.

Above 40 category (5 km): Kanta Singh (1st), Laltlangsang Singson (2nd), Subol Singh (3rd) .
Above 40 women special Category (5 km): Lakhani Shilsi (1st), Sarah Maring (2nd), Th Rabiting Monsang (3rd) .
U-16 boys category (5 km): Khuraijam Deko (1st), Kashudlung Newmei (2nd), Hrangbung Belarhring (3rd) .
U-16 girls category (5 km): M Thadoi Chanu (1st), Caroline Tholung (2nd), Rufina Nung-chim (3rd) .
