Ahead of the 'Athoubasinggi Numit', which is observed every year on April 13, the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) and its armed wing People's Liberation Army (PLA) paid highest revolutionary honour to all the martyrs who laid down their lives during the course of liberation movement.
The outfit also extended its highest regard to all those who are now permanently disabled owing to torture by the adversary forces and also all the fellow suffering countrymen.
According to an RPF statement issued by its deputy secretary of publicity Roben Khuman, all the courageous people who laid down their lives during the course of the struggle to regain the lost sovereignty of Manipur will ever remain shining like bright stars.
The battle of Kodompokpi guided the on going war for Manipur's independence and this battlefield will ever remain as a historic event for the future generations to come, the outfit said and reiterated its stand to wage war till regaining the lost sovereignty of Manipur.
During the course of the struggle by RPF and other revolutionary groups for restoration of the lost sovereignty, several thousands of innocent people and revolutionaries were killed since 1978-79 while many others suffered injuries.
Majority of the casualties in the on-going Indo-Manipur armed conflict are natives of Manipur, the RPF said, adding that casualties of the big wheels of state terrorism continue unabated till date as military repression of the enemy continues.
While reminded that April 13 is observed as 'Athoubasinggi Numit'/Martyrs' Day every year in honour of supreme sacrifices made by valiant fighters, RPF appealed to people of all communities in Manipur to pay homage to memorial tombs/complexes of the martyrs as done in the past.
The outfit also appealed to people to light candle/lamp at their residential gates in the evening as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
It further urged the people not to organise any form of entertainment programme or feasting party on the day except those related with religious ceremonies.
