Vafiimai Friendship Hostel inaugurated

A new hostel for tribal students of Laii area, christened "Vafiimai Friendship Hostel" was inaugurated on April 9, 2023 by Brigadier Vaibhav Shinde DIG, 10 Sector Assam Rifles.
The inaugural function was also graced by Colonel Christopher Rego (Retd) Founder and CEO, Sunbird Trust; Reverend Fr Solomon Thezii, Chancellor, Archdiocese of Imphal; Rev Fr Dominic Kanmi, Parish Priest and Principal of Sacred Heart School Laii; Kapani Anthony, Chairman, Laii Village Authority along with Colonel Anand, Major Rahul, members of Sunbird Trust, Justine Ngaoni, DSFS sisters, teachers, parents and students.
The construction of Vafiimai Friendship Hostel was sponsored by Sunbird Trust and the Learn for Life Foundation, is intended to provide hostel facility for underprivileged tribal students who have no access to quality education.
Vafiimai, one of the biggest villages in Senapati District, around 82 Kilometres away from the district headquarters Senapati is home to over 5000 persons.
The newly built hostel which will host students for Sacred Heart School, Laii has come as a boon to the people of Laii and neighbouring villages such as, New Laii, Laii Shirafii, Chingmai Khullen, Chingmai Khunou and Katafiimai/Vesaichu.
Colonel Christopher Rego (Retd) who has been instrumental in helping many poor students besides helping build over 65 schools across the States of Manipur, Nagaland and other parts of India while speaking on the occasion expressed hope that his team's effort to reach out to the needy students will see fruition through this new hostel.
He urged the students to grab the opportunity of the facilities provided by the hostel to their advantage.
He also reminded the parents of the importance of monitoring and disciplining their children if they wanted their wards to become successful in life.
Brigadier Vaibhav Shinde while lauding the works done by Sunbird Trust said that the new educational facility was a step towards empowering the people of the area.
He urged the students and the people of the area to make maximum use of the new hostel facility.
The people of Laii expressed their joy in the new hostel that has been built.
On behalf of the village, the village Chairman, Anthony Kapani expressed gratitude to Sunbird Trust for building the hostel in Laii village.
