Settlers vacated from Reserved Forest area

Imphal, April 11 2023:
A team of Forest Department officials accompanied by police carried out eviction drive in a Langol Reserved Forest area located on the western side of IGAR South campus, under Heingang police station.
During the eviction drive led by Heingang SDC with the assistance of Forest Department officials and personnel of Imphal East district police, a total of 26 residential houses and structures were demolished.
The houses were found constructed inside the Langol reserved forest area in Lamlongei village under Heingang assembly constituency of Manipur and consequently demolished under the supervision of the forest department.
The eviction drive started from 7.30 am and continued till 4 pm.
According to Manipur forest department officials, the demolitions were carried out under section 26 of the Indian Forest Act.
It is said that the forest department had served notices to the owners of the "illegally constructed" houses about a month ago.
A Manipur forest department official stated that eviction drives against "illegal constructions" inside reserved forest areas would be intensified soon.
