Imphal/Bishnupur, April 11 2023:
The blockade along National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam) between New Keithelmanbi and Kotlen village has been lifted for a week after youth club leaders and the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) arrived at an agreement.
The NHIDCL has assured to begin the pending works in one week's time and take up necessary measures to control the dust along the highway, mainly in the village and school areas.
As such, the blockade was called off for a week.
However, in case of failure to continue the work process on April 18, the youth clubs along with women unions will continue the blockade from April 19 .
Separately, Oinam Awang Leikai Meira Paibi Lup and members of the local club have indefinitely blocked the road stretch from Oinam constituency passing through Naorem under Nambol AC to Wangoi AC owing to failure to repair the road stretch.
Speaking in this connection, A Gunachandra, social worker, stated that the road has remained without any form of repair work for the last ten years and appeals to this effect had so far fallen on deaf ears.
As such, he urged the local MLA and the relevant department to look into the matter and fulfil their demand.
The indefinite bandh will reportedly continue until the road stretch is repaired.
