Imphal, April 11 2023:
Four members of the Manipur People's Party (MPP) who were recently removed from the party have asserted that Chingkham Shyamjai shouldn't be the interim president of the party and accused him of running the party like a 'dictator' .
Notably, the four persons, Khongbantabam Yaima Singh, Wangkhem Biren, Mayanglambam Sana alias Sanahal and Laishram Brajamani Singh were "removed" from the party by interim president Ch Shyamjai on April 6 .
During a press meet at Manipur Press Club where all four were present, one of them, Mayanglambam Sana asserted that the claim of 'self-styled president', Ch Shyamjai that they were acting against the interest of the party is 'baseless' .
They were removed from the party as they had lodged a case in the Court against the interim president and some office bearers who are at best 'his followers', Sana alleged.
He further claimed that their removal from active and ordinary membership of the party on the charge that they had frozen a current account of the party at Imphal Cooperative Bank is a result of Shyamjai's 'shortcomings and lack of understanding of the party's constitution' .
Following a decision of the last meeting of the Central committee of the party held on December 14, 2022, Shyamjai himself had presided over a General conference and decided to hold an election on January 28, 2023 to elect a regular president.
Moreover, Shyamjai had also filed nomination for the election.
Amid all these, he appointed himself and extended his tenure as interim president for another six months, M Sana said, comparing Shyamjai's leadership to that of a 'dictatorship' .
"The only thing he has done as an interim president is adding and removing members," he said.
W Biren, who was also present, asserted that Shyamjai had revoked his own order which removed members for their alleged involvement in scandals raising suspicion that he too might be involved in misappropriation of party funds.
MPP is one of the oldest regional parties in the North East and they had gone to the Court to save the party and its constitution, he said.
