Imphal, April 11 2023:
Hitting hard against the BJP government for its policy which has resulted in removal of several chapters from the NCERT syllabus of class 6 to 12, Congress party has accused the BJP government of trying to systematically bring a fascist regime in the country.
Addressing a press meet at Congress Bhawan here on Tuesday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) senior spokesperson Hareshwar Goswami compared the modification of NCERT syllabus with the education system in Germany under Hitler's Nazi rule.
RSS, which is a close associate of BJP, is a group that believes in fascism, he alleged.
The spokesperson further said that the attempt of BJP government to suppress voices of the media and public as well as political opinion is well known to all.
Congress party is convinced that the series of modifications made in the NCERT syllabus is part of the final stage of BJP's attempt to bring fascist regime, he said.
While lamenting that NCERT is no more an autonomous body it used to be, Hareshwar contended that the textbook review committee formed recently is an attempt to paint saffron colour to the school education.
At first, the committee removed some parts from the chapters like Kingdoms, Kings and Early Republic, and then removed the entire chapter on Key elements of democratic government from class 6 textbooks.
As a result, there is no chapter for the school students to learn about democracy.
Similarly, chapters like New Kings and Kingdoms, and Delhi Sultan have been removed from class 7 syllabus.
These chapters played key role in instilling the idea of peaceful co-existence and it shows the dirty game of creating animosity among different religions, he said.
Hareshwar also alleged that the BJP government removed chapters on Mahatma Gandhi's initiative to promote peaceful co-existence among Hindu and Muslim, and added that it is an attempt to erase the historical fact of assassination of the Father of the Nation.
It is time the public rise in unison against such fascist BJP and its policies, he added.
