Imphal, April 11 2023:
The Congress party has accused the BJP of saffronising education with a hidden agenda to create a fascist society in the country.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president and senior spokesman Hareshwar Goshwami said that the syllabi prescribed by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) for classes VI to XII have been overhauled.
BJP and its 'associate RSS' believe in fascism.
As they believe in fascism, the BJP Government has been scheming to silence other political parties by threatening and harassing them repeatedly using agencies like CBI, Enforcement Directorate etc, Hareshwar said.
Apart from silencing the people's voice, BJP has been working actively to saffronise the NCERT's syllabi, he said.
The NCERT initiated a process of overhauling the syllabi of classes VI to XII from 2022 in almost all subjects including History, Geography, Mathematics, Social Sciences and Sciences, he continued.
Even though NCERT was set up in 1961 as an autonomous body, it is no longer an autonomous body following BJP Government's consistent efforts to saffronise education, the MPCC spokesman said.
A textbook revision committee was formed and its chairman was a former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The committee then started working to saffronise the people of India with a hidden agenda to create a fascist society, he said.
'Kingdoms', 'Kings and Early Republic' and 'Key Elements of a Democratic Government' have been removed from the syllabus of class VI.
Another key chapter which taught democracy and its principles to the students of class VI has also been scrapped, he said.
Chapters on 'Kings and Kingdoms' and 'Delhi Sultans' have been removed from the syllabus of class VII.
These changes indicate that BJP is determined to erase everything related to Muslims from the country's history and this challenges the very foundation of Indian democracy, Hareshwar said.
The thread of secularism bound together the Hindus, the Muslims, the Christians and other religious communities but the BJP has been working actively to polarise the communities, he said.
Likewise, 'The Indian Constitution', 'The Making of National Movement' and 'India after Independence' have been removed from the syllabus of class VIII.
The main reason or objective of these changes is to keep away the people of the country from the narratives about Congress party's contribution to the development of independent India, the MPCC spokesman asserted.
Further, many important chapters of class X such as 'Democracy and Diversity', 'Popular Struggles and Movements', 'Political Parties' and 'Challenges to Democracy' have either been removed or modified, he said.
The BJP Government has been working deliberately to make the people ignorant of the values of democracy, he said.
'From the Beginning of Time', 'The Central Islamic Lands', 'Confrontation of Cultures' and 'The Industrial Revolution' have been removed from the syllabus of class XI.
Driven by a hidden agenda of BJP and RSS, many important chapters such as 'Kings and Chronicles' and 'The Mughal Court' have been scrapped from the syllabus of class XII, he said.
The BJP Government has been working openly against the principle and spirit of secularism.
They have already started removing accounts of Muslim rulers from the school syllabus and it undermines the value of democracy, he said.
He then called upon all the people to be wary of BJP's agenda of 'one political party, one religion, one country and one Nation' .
