Imphal, April 11 2023:
A total bandh has been called in areas of Noney district covered by Northern Frontier Railways (NFR) from April 23, in protest against non-fulfilment of the demands raised by the land owners of Thingou village, who have been affected by the rail-line construction project.
Issuing a statement in this regard, Khullakpa/ex-officio chairman of Thingou Village Authority, Noney Achun Kamei (Machunthoi Kamei) informed that despite repeated reminders made to NFR to address the demands of the landowners of the village, who have been affected by the railway project, no action has been taken up till date.
As such, a total bandh will be enforced in areas of Noney district covered by NFR from April 23 midnight to denounce non-fulfilment of the agreement signed at the office of Deputy Commissioner, Noney on October 21, 2022.The chairman continued that representatives of Thingou village had submitted multiple reminders in writing but NFR did not take any action till date despite having camped in the area for over a decade.
He then warned of launching intense agitations if NFR fails to take up any action on the matter, adding that any untoward consequences resulting from the same will be the sole responsibility of NFR.
