Imphal, April 11 2023:
Even as some Government schools have no students, the Ngariyan Muslim Primary School has as many as eighty students, but without a regular teacher.
The school, which falls under Imphal East ZEO Zone-II, used to have a regular teacher before.
However, after the lone teacher got transferred, the students were left without a single teacher.
Now, with no choice left, the locals have hired three teachers to give the much needed education to the children, who are mostly from underserved families.
Meanwhile, this condition of the school came to light when volunteers of Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) visited the school for inspection.
Notably, KSA volunteers have been visiting and inspecting many schools and colleges in the State.
In a statement it released to the media, KSA said the school which has about 80 students has no regular teacher after the only teacher got transferred to another school.
As the Department concerned did not send a replacement, the locals were left with no other choice but to hire teachers themselves, it said.
The Department concerned must feel ashamed that the locals were forced to hire the teachers themselves, it added.
The school, KSA said, is an example of the failure of the School Phagathansi Mission.
Asking the Department concerned for proper attention, KSA said it (Department) should visit all Government schools and study their status.
The Department should know the number of students and teachers of each Government school.
Without proper attention, these schools may perish in no time, said KSA.
Meanwhile, KSA said its volunteers will visit other schools and colleges across Manipur.
