DC opens new bridge; declares Katomei New Eden as 'tobacco free and eco-friendly village'

Senapati, February 10 2015:
Making it first of its kind in Senapati District, Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus, on Tuesday declared Katomei New Eden Village as the first "Tobacco Free and Eco Friendly Village.
Inaugurating the opening of the newly constructed Zion Bridge which connects the said village with the main NH-2 across the Senapati River, the DC was in full praise to the Village which was also recently declared as the "Model Village in Sanitation" during the Swachh Bharat motivated Cleanliness and Sanitation competition organized by the District Adminis-tration.
The bridge will benefit more than 6 villages under the DHQ adminis-tration, many school going children who had to face difficulties of crossing during monsoon seasons.
The Zion Bridge constructed under the benevolent patronage of the lady IAS officer was opened to the public in the presence of Tadubi SDO Ganguiliu Gangmei, MCS, former MLA Henry Paotie, Silas principal Lao Radiant Hr.Sec.
School, Vakho, DRDA officials, students, womenfolk, youth and Village leaders from surrounding villages.
Emphasizing the role of villagers in ushering development in the villages, the DC in her chief guest speech lauded the efforts of the villagers in maintains such excellent records.
Assuring developmental support to those performing villages, the 2005 batch IAS officer stated that, New Eden has been an exemplary village to all.
Promoting cleanliness, eco-friendly activities, development through mass participation and utility of Government's funds wisely will develop any village and its members.
SDO Ganguiliu Gangmei, MCS expressed the commendable works of the Village to maintain sanitation throughout the year and declaration of the village as Tobacco free and eco friendly which is rare in any villages in the State.
The 2012 MCS batch lady officer called upon the villagers that, any success of Government's project will depend on the involve-ment and sincerity of the villages during implemen-tation.
With the District administration under the lady DC giving its best to reach out to many villages especially the remote areas, the participation and support of the villages is vital to materialize such endeavors, she added.
