AMUCO, others warn of strong protest

Imphal, August 01 2026: The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWO- VA), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), Committee on Human Rights (COHR) and the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) have warned of strong agitation if the State Government fails to adopt appropriate and satisfactory resolutions during the upcoming Assembly session.

Speaking to media persons on behalf of the five organisations at AMUCO office, Kwakeithel this afternoon, AMUCO president Sanjoy Sorokhaibam categorically stated that no census operations will be allowed in Manipur under any circumstances until and unless the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated.

The issue of illegal immigration has not been resolved yet.

The violence has not ended but it is still raging in different parts of the State.

Moreover, the State Government is still unable to enforce its civil and police administrations in the interior areas of hill districts, he said.

Census data collected under the prevailing situation will never be accurate or correct, Sanjoy said.

The AMUCO president asserted that the recent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls should be annulled.

If an illegal immigrant is enlisted in the electoral roll on the strength of a permanent residential certificate issued by a Deputy Commissioner, it is nothing short of granting citizenship, he said.

Expressing strong desire for the State Assembly session scheduled to commence from September 2 to be meaningful and purposeful, Sanjoy warned that the legislators will be only inviting strong mass agitation if the upcoming session fails to take up the burning issues and adopt satisfactory resolutions.
