Imphal, February 10 2015:
Various Muslim bodies of the State have raised opposition to the allotment of land including a place where a Mosque is located in Ukhrul for the construction of District and Sessions Court.
The All Manipur Muslim Organisations Coordinating Committee, United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation and All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation have demanded that the worship place of the Muslims should not be affected by the construction of the District and Sessions Court, Ukhrul.
Addressing a press meet today at Manipur Press Club, AMMOCC president Md Siraj Ahmad said that DC of Ukhrul issued an order on Feb 5 to dismantle standing buildings at the western side of the old Ukhrul SDO office complex where some Govt quarters and a Masjid are located for construction of District and Sessions Court, Ukhrul.
He said that the order was issued without consulting the leaders of the Masjid.
He asserted that they are not against the development policy of the Govt but would oppose encroachment or dismantling of religious shrines in the name of development projects.
He urged the Govt to leave the Masjid at Ukhrul untouched for any purpose.
Siraj Ahmad said that the Mosque at Ukhrul is the worship place for many Muslim officials who are posted at the district headquarters.
He further warned of launching different forms of agitation if the Govt fails to come out with an order to suppress the standing order.
Meanwhile, another source said that the foundation stone for the District and Sessions Court will be laid by the Chief Minister on Feb 12 .
