Chief Minister Khemchand leaves for Delhi

Imphal, August 01 2026:
Following a reported call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand left Imphal for Delhi today.
Sources said that the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister may hold talks at 3 pm on Wednesday on several issues including the growing demand for updating the NRC before census and the disruption to census related activities.
Notably, ex-Chief Minister N Biren reached Delhi on Tuesday after he was summoned by Central leaders.
N Biren left Imphal for Delhi on August 24 morning while Khemchand boarded an Indigo flight for Delhi at 4 pm today.
A BJP MLA maintained that the Chief Minister went to Delhi after seeking an appointment with the Union Home Minister to discuss several issues including the ongoing mass agitation for updating the NRC before census operations.
The MLA said that Amit Shah and Khemchand will deliberate on census, NRC and other issues at 3 pm tomorrow.
A group of MLAs from the ruling front are already camping at Delhi to meet Central leaders of the BJP to present the case of NRC .
The group of MLAs including State Home Minister Govindas Kon-thoujam has already met Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh where the NRC case was presented.
