Sitharaman sets Myanmar date

Rounding up her maiden visit to the State, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has decided to visit Myanmar within the current month with the objective of bolstering cross-border trade between the two neighbouring countries.
Nirmala Sitharaman who arrived here yesterday went to Moreh in a helicopter today and interacted with traders at the border town.
She was accompanied by the Commerce and Industries Minister, Government of Manipur Govindas Konthoujam, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce RR Rashmi, Additional Chief Secretary O Nabakishore and some other officers.

Nirmala Sitharaman collected a first hand account of the multi-product special economic zone being developed at Kuraopokpi, Kakching.
For developing the SEZ, the State Government allocated 76 acres of land to the Commerce and industries Department.
Govindas informed Nirmaia Sitharaman that more lands would be acquired and the land acquisition process has been initiated expeditiously.
At Moreh, the Union Minister inspected the construction of integrated check post.
She also made field assessment of the preparations being done at the border town for land customs office and for opening visa on arrival facility.
The Union Minister was also briefed by Assam Rifles on the integrated check post which would be completed by June next year as well as other issues of the border town.
She said that she would soon visit Myanmar and open diplomatic channels to address all bilateral issues which have been hampering cross-border trade between the two neighbouring countries.
