SF foil 'attack plot'

Security forces have foiled a major plot to carry out a massive attack on the security forces during the upcoming Republic Day celebration arresting two active cadres of PLA along with explosives and other arms and ammunition.
The two arrested cadres have been identified as Maibam Kanta Singh (45) and Bhumeshor Thoudam (39), both from Litan Makhong, Heirok Part-II, Thoubal.
A combined team of Thoubal Commando and a column of 16 Assam Rifles arrested the two from Litan Makhong, Heirok Part-II.
Sources in the police said the two cadres revealed that they were planning to detonate explosives at different Government institutions targeting security forces during the Republic Day at various places of the valley districts.
From their possession, the security forces recovered explosives and arms and ammunition.
The recovered items, arms and ammunition include one Glock 9mm pistol with magazine, two 9mm pistols with magazine, 90 live rounds of 9 mm, 9 Chinese made hand grenades, 8 detonators, one wired detonator, one remote control and 9V battery, 3 wireless detonator receivers and 3 mobile phones.
The operation which resulted in the arrest of the two was launched after getting specific inputs from the 16 Assam Rifles about some cadres of the PLA planning to disrupt the upcoming Republic Day celebration.
Input was received that some explosives, arms and ammunition were being transported at Heirok area, said sources.
Based on the information, the combined team led by Inspector K Nitaranjan OC Thoubal under the command of O Wangkhomba, Additional SP Operation and Jogeshchandra Haobijam, SP Thoubal rushed at Heirok Part-II and carried out a massive cordon and search operation early morning.
During the search operation, the combined team detained and arrested the two, Maibam Kanta Singh and Bhumeshor Thoudam and recovered the arms and ammunition.
They were planning to carry out the attack on the instructions of one Deepak, a self-styled captain of the PLA.
The arrested persons and the items recovered have been handed over to the Heirok police station for further investigation and necessary legal action, said police source.
