'Battle of Imphal and Kohima' launched

Education minister Th Basantakumar Singh released a book, titled 'The Battle of Imphal and Kohima' based on the Japanese operation in northeast India during World War-II, as chief guest at Imphal Peace Museum, Maibam Lotpa Ching on Tuesday.
Organised jointly by Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Knowledge World and Manipur Tourism Forum as part of celebrating 70 years of Indo-Japan friendship; the book launch function was attended by Sasakawa founder Yu Yui Nakamura, National Defence Academy Japan professor Tohmatsu Haruo, Manipur Tourism Forum president P Kunjabihari and retired Lt Gen Konsam Himalay as members of the dais.
Manipur University vice chancellor professor N Lokendra, professor Tohmatsu Haruo, senior journalist Pradip Phanjoubam and professor Hatashin Omni spoke on the topic of 'Academic discourse on Japan Lan (War)' as resource persons.
In his speech, minister Basantakumar recounted that the people of Manipur suffered immensely during the Second World War though the battle also ushered in many new changes.
Maibam Lotpa Ching was known as the Red Hills and there are records of Manipuri people extending assistance to Japanese soldiers at that time, he said.
Basanta then stressed that as many tourists, both domestic and international, visit Maibam Lotpa Ching, there is the need to develop the area, He also assured of extending all possible help in this regard.
