Security forces net PLA cadres with arms and ammos

A combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and columns of 16 Assam Rifles (AR) apprehended two cadres of the proscribed insurgent group PLA with arms and ammunition from Heirok Part 2 Chingol area on Tuesday.
According to a police report, consequent to information relayed by 16 AR that some PLA cadres have transported explosives to Heirok area with the intention to disrupt the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, teams of district police commandos and 16 AR led by Thoubal additional SP (Ops) O Wangkhomba and Thoubal commando officer in-charge K Nitaranjan Singh conducted search operation in and around Heirok Part 2 Chingol area from 5 am.
During the search, the teams detained two cadres of the PLA identified as Maibam Kanta Singh (45) son of Maibam Ibocha Singh and Bhumeshor Thoudam (39) son of Thoudam Anoubi both from Litan Makhong, Heirok Part 2 in Thoubal district.
As per the police report, the recoveries made from the duo included one GLOCK 9mm pistol with magazine, two 9mm pistols with magazine, 90 live rounds of 9 mm, nine Chinese-made hand grenades, eight detonators, one wired detonator, one remote control and 9V battery, three wireless detonator receivers and three mobile phones.
On questioning, the two revealed that on the instruction of PLA's S/S captain Deepak, they planned to explode bombs at different government installations in different locations of the valley districts and target security forces in the run-up to the upcoming Republic Day, the police informed.
The two cadres arrested along with weapons and ammunitions seized at 2:45 pm by observing formalities have been handed over to Heirok police station for further investigations.
On the other hand, a PRO IGAR (S) release informed that plan of proscribed RPF/PLA to disturb peace in the state, especially in Imphal Valley, was foiled due to timely action by Assam Rifles.
PLA was planning to disturb the peace during festive season and New Year celebration and to target security forces in Imphal Valley, the PRO informed adding that the insurgent group had been preparing lEDs and stockpiling grenades and fire arms for the same purpose.
As part of series of operations, security forces have been constantly monitoring the PLA network and eventually succeeded in apprehending two PLA insurgents on Tuesday, the PRO informed.
During investigation, the apprehended insurgents confessed about their plans to target non-locals, security forces and to disturb the celebrations during festive season in the Imphal valley, the PRO informed, adding that, further investigation led to recovery of five grenades, three pistols, three lEDs and three detonators from Telipati and Heirok areas.
PLA has been losing its credibility and ideological support from the locals and especially the youth in Manipur because it is being seen as the biggest hurdle in the path to progress and development of Manipur, the PRO added.
