Biswajit inaugurates Kangla Mini Film City

Power minister Thongam Biswajit has inaugurated a mini film city of Kangla Films at Lairenpat, Ucheckon Khunou in Imphal East on Tuesday.
Minister Biswajit and Film Forum Manipur chairman Laimayum Surjakanta attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while Maniwood Club president and Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, Indian Overseas Bank Imphal Branch senior manager Chungkham Premkumar and Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Biswajit observed that film industry is part of the society and promoting the industry will also bring development in the society.
The mini film city of Kangla Films will give a new dimension to the film industry of the state and will be a catalyst to attract filmmakers from beyond the state, which will automatically spur economic development through new income generating opportunities.
Kangla Films' functionary Premjit recalled how he invested whatever he had in film as he is always drawn to the industry since his early days.
He also narrated how filmmakers of the state faced difficulties in using government offices like police station, lock-up, jail and courts in filming, and said that the film city is a modest attempt to fill up those gaps with financial support from Manipur Start-Up Scheme.
He expressed hope that the film city, despite its small size, would help in addressing the some of the shortfalls the film industry of the state is facing.
