A bomb attack and a bomb threat were carried out at different parts of Imphal in less than 24 hours.
While a powerful Remote-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) was found today at Telipati under Porompat police station, a bomb attack was carried out at SK Fish Centre at Khongman Mangjil Zone -I last night at around 11 .
It is suspected that the bomb found at Telipati might had been planted by militants.
In the late night bomb attack at Khongman, the gate of the fish centre was damaged by the impact of the explosion but no one was injured.
The fish centre is run by one Aribam Sashikumar.
According to witnesses, the bomb was lobbed by a person coming on a two-wheeler vehicle.
No groups or individuals have claimed responsibility for the attack till the time of filing this report.
It may be mentioned that a bomb threat was served to the fish centre in November last year too.
Denouncing the attack, a sit-in protest was staged today at Khongman.
Meanwhile, an unknown miscreant suspected to be a member of an underground outfit placed a powerful Remote-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) at Telipati under Porompat police station.
The bomb was found this morning.
According to reports culled from the spot, the powerful IED packed inside a black polythene bag was placed near the gate of a particular warehouse owned by Ramnath Sahu (75) of the locality (Telipati) .
Soon after the detection of the IED, a police team cordoned off the area and diverted all vehicles coming from Hatta Golapati and Lamlong sides to alternate routes to prevent casualties.
The bomb was later defused by the bomb experts at around 9.40 am.
Imphal East SP M Pradip and other top brass of the State police also rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
While defusing, an ambulance, a signal jammer vehicle and a fire tender were also pressed into service.
On checking, three TNT sticks, batteries, electric circuit board, detonators and splinters of iron balls and nails were found fitted inside the IED weighing around 5 kgs.
The bomb was disposed of at Nongmaijing hill range at around 11.40 am.
A case has been registered at Porompat police station.
A bomb attack was carried in the same area on December 29, 2021 but no one was injured.
