Bridge inspected

The Additional Chief Engineer of PWD , Temba today inspected the bridge with local MLA Karam Thamarjit, Zila Parishad Member Md Abdul Salam and representatives of Educational Development and Health Promotion.
Khuraijam Temba said that PWD would not only probe the incident but also conduct a load test of the bridge.
Saying that it is not certain how long the enquiry will take, Temba added that fate of the concerned contractor would be decided after perusing the findings of the inquiry.
Regarding Pal Ahanbi bridge, which is to be constructed at Leishang Hiden, the Additional Chief Engineer said that Rs One crore has been included in the proposal of SPA, he added.
Temba further said that construction of the bridge would start soon once the report is finalised.
Keirao AC MLA Karam Thamarjit said that Educational Development and Health Promotion Council (EDHPC), an apex body of 60 local clubs of Keirao area, had submitted a memorandum to Works Minister, PWD Chief Engineer and him regarding the collapse of the RCC bridge.
The MLA said that the memorandum urged the Government to check the completed portion of the bridge as well.
It also demanded that no fund be released before the completion of an enquiry, he added.
The MLA also requested the Government to start construction of Pal Ahanbi bridge at the earliest.
Conveying people's wish, Keirao Makting Zilla Parishad Member Md Abdul Salam urged to maintain quality in the construction of the bridge.
Conduct of an enquiry into the recent bridge collapse and early handing over of the bridge to people are other people's wishes, he added.
EDHPC general secretary Dhamen said that people are doubtful about the strength of the bridge after the recent collapse and breaking down of a nearby retaining wall in the past.
He also said that people always want early completion of the bridge.
