Two Manipuri youths attacked, 1 robbed in Delhi

Imphal / New Delhi, February 10 2014:
In a sign of escalating hate crime against people of Northeast origin in the National capital, two youths from Manipur were beaten up with sticks by a group of motorcyclists in Ambedkar Nagar area of south Delhi around 8.30 p.m.Sunday.
On of the victims identified as Ginkhansuan has been admitted to All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for treatment but the other youth discharged after treatment.
A case has been registered but none of the attackers have been arrested yet.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Manipuri student was robbed by four men, who were later arrested, when he went to buy a recharge coupon for his mobile phone, police said Monday.
The incident took place in Nizamuddin area in south Delhi Sunday evening when Vasomo Phong Sore, a first year student of Delhi University, went to a church with his sister.
After dropping his sister at the church he went to buy a recharge coupon.
While he was riding his motorcycle four men stopped him near the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, police said.
The four snatched his mobile phone and Rs.400 in cash and fled the scene.
The victim called the police and reported the incident.
A police team was immediately formed to nab the accused.
On the basis of Sore's description of the attackers, the team managed to catch them and recover the money and phone.
Nadeem, Safiq, Alladdin and Wasim were arrested within four hours, police said.
All these incidents have come days after the death of Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tania after an alleged racist attack in Lajpat Nagar Market in South Delhi and rape of a 14 years old girl from Manipur at Munirka area, triggered protests in the capital with people from the northeast alleging racial discrimination against those from the region.
